Crisis Care Kits for Oklahoma Storm Victims

One of the primary ways the Church of the Nazarene reacts in times of natural disaster is with disaster response teams coordinated through Nazarene Disaster Response (NDR) and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM). These first responders head into storm ravaged areas to help with clean up and first wave response. And they take with them Crisis Care Kits designed to supply storm victims with basic hygiene items to get them through the first days after a disaster.

Southdale’s Nazarene Disaster Response coordinator, Bob Misner, will be taking Southdale’s NDR trailer to Oklahoma to assist in response efforts with NDR and NCM.  The trailer is equipped with tools necessary to assist with clean up efforts, but we want to fill up every remaining space in the trailer with Crisis Care Kits to be used in the recovery.  To fill the trailer, we are planning to pack Crisis Care Kits this Saturday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.

To accomplish this mission, we need to things from you:

1. We need your help.  Join us Saturday from 9-11 to help pack kits.
2. We need your donations.  Even if you can’t help pack the kits, you can bring the supplies necessary to fill the kits to the church. See the list of items for the kits below.

Crisis Care Kit Packing List

Please bring in precisely the items listed below.  While not as critical when used in the United States, when Crisis Care Kits are sent overseas, deviation from the list below can create problems with customs and delay or even prevent your assistance from getting where it is needed.

• 1 medium size bottle of shampoo (12 to 18oz.), please tape flip-tops closed
• 2 bars of soap (bath-size or larger)
• 1 medium toothpaste (4.0 to 6.4 oz.)
• 3 toothbrushes (in original packaging)
• 1 box of Band-Aids (30 or more)
• 1 fingernail clipper
• 1 sturdy hair comb
• 2 hand towels
• 4 pocket-size packages of facial tissue
• 1 Beanie Baby-size stuffed tow
